The morning of our wedding day I remember waking up to the sound of rushing
water in the gutter outside my window. I was panicked! We had planned an
outdoor wedding. But my groom drove to my apartment, gave me a hug and
whispered in my ear “today you are the sun, everything will be fine” I will
never forget this.
After getting ready at my Grandparents house in Lakewood,
about ten minutes from our venue I felt numb as I walked onto the wet
pavement and family members were asking me if I should move the wedding
inside. I just said, “no everything will be fine” just like my groom,
promised. My bridesmaids and I were escorted to Steilacoom by my grandfather
or “Pa” as I called him since I could first speak, that was touching in and
of itself, but as we entered the historic town of Steilacoom I heard Pa say
“well would you look at that,” we noticed that the pavement was dry, not one
drop of rain, and so maybe I was the “sun” that chased the rain away,
after-all I am the morning in our a.m./ p.m. union but that was a sprinkle
of wedding day magic I just couldn’t keep to myself.
Future brides and grooms even though your day may not be what you envisioned
cherish every moment even the setbacks. Over time those rain clouds can
reveal little rainbow moments that you will remember for the rest of your
lives.

]]>Our wedding was absolutely magical, filled with handmade whimsical details to create a classic, vintage feel. It balanced the style and pace of my New York family with the elegance and grace of Lamont’s southern Mississippi roots. We were surrounded by close friends and family from as far away as Australia and New Zealand, who received welcome bags that included Mardi Gras beads and masks, hurricane mix, customized liquor bottles, personalized water bottles, voodoo flavored potato chips, and visitor information. I wore Pergola by Pronovias, and my bridesmaids wore vintage 1950s prom dresses. Lamont and his groomsmen wore semi-formal gray tuxedos from Men’s Wearhouse. New and estate jewelry was provided by Levy’s Fine Jewelry, and bridal shoes were Racine by Twenty10.
Guests had a brief respite during the heat of afternoon, when they were able to nap, lounge in the courtyard of the Creole Gardens Bed & Breakfast, or simply find a quiet place to read and relax. In the early evening (during a partial solar eclipse!), the guests reconvened for a traditional New Orleans Second Line Parade through the famed French Quarter. Adorned with vintage umbrellas (Bella Umbrella), bead and Moon Pie “throws,” and some of the best entertainment New Orleans has to offer (Kinfolk Brass Band, Dancing Man 504), we walked from the Napoleon House restaurant to Bourbon Street, eventually concluding at the picturesque Jackson Square for an impassioned rendition of “When the Saints Come Marching In.” The joy was infectious, and everyone from guests to street vendors to tourists got into the celebratory spirit.
